Gosset Matchmakers 2024

CHAMPAGNE GOSSET Is A FOOD AND WINE PAIRING COMPETITION FOR RISING CHEFS AND SOMMELIERS.

The competition, now in its ninth year, represents the pinnacle of Champagne and gastronomy pairing. This year’s competition attracted some of the very best and the final took place at Cord by Le Cordon Bleu in September in partnership with Louis Latour Agencies and The Sommelier Edit.

Gosset Matchmakers recognises and awards up-and-coming sommelier and chef partnerships who create perfect food and wine pairings in restaurants and other eateries all over the country.

In 2023 we asked entrants to create an innovative dish to pair with Gosset Grand Rosé. The finalists were then surprised with a mystery ingredient and champagne on the morning of the final and asked to prepare a second on-the-spot pairing with, matching Gosset Grand Millésime 2015 with Cassava, selected by 2023 chef’s judge Luciana Berry.

Entries for the 2024 competition will open on Monday 29th April 2024. Details will be announced shortly.

HOW IT WORKS

Gosset Matchmakers is a competition for rising chefs and sommeliers with fewer than five years professional experience.

Teams are invited to submit an imaginative and innovative food pairing with Gosset champagne

Five finalists will be invited to Cord by Le Cordon Bleu to prepare and present their pairing. On the day they will be asked to respond to a mystery wine and box of ingredients to create a second dish to further demonstrate their creativity and ability to work as a team under pressure.

Our 2023 panel of judges includes Matthieu Longuere MS from Le Cordon Bleu, Melody Wong from The Peninsula London, Luciana Berry winner of Top Chef Brazil and Le Cordon Bleu graduate, Bertrand Verduzier from Champagne Gosset and Will Oatley from Louis Latour Agencies.

Easter treats with Gosset Petite Douceur Rosé. A unique and versatile champagne great to sip, or eat with pastries, cakes and a wide variety of savoury dishes. It is deeply aromatic and luscious rosé with aromas and flavours reminiscent of blood orange, raspberry and ripe strawberries balanced by fine bubbles and naturally fresh acidity. Our Gougères have a British twist and are 'improved' via the addition of Marmite and a hint of cayenne. Marmite is a favourite of Gosset's Cellar Master Odilon de Varine so we hope he approves. Following on from our posts last week, here's a final review of Gosset's newest release, Its not just @worldoffinewine who loved Celebris Vintage 2012 (see our post from Tuesday). @six_atmospheres writing in @decanter seemed to like it too. Gloriously exceptional! The @worldoffinewine has just published Neil Beckett's review of Gosset Celebris Vintage 2012. It is the ninth Celebris release in the cuvée’s 35 year history. A series which demonstrates the quintessence of the Gosset style. Each year we ask the guest chef judge to select the key ingredient for the mystery box. The mystery box is a selection of ingredients and a Gosset champagne revealed on the day to allow entrants to showcase their food and wine pairing skills on the spot. This year Luciana Berry paired cassava with Gosset Grand Millesime 2015. 2023 Gosset Matchmakers finalists and friends. 2023 Gosset Matchmakers winners sommelier Jiachen Lu and chef Gail Li at this years competition final. Their dish of turbot and scallop puff, yuzu shio-koji emulsion, tomato miso paired with Gosset Grand Rosé wowed the judges. Congratulations! This Autumn we introduced Celebris Vintage 2012, the 9th release of this wine since its creation 35 years ago. It is a blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir from the crus of Ambonnay, Avenay, Avize, Aÿ, Bouzy, Cuis, Cramant, Grauves, Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger, Louvois, Trépail and Villers-Marmery and spent at least 10 years in the Gosset's cellars before release.
